Goodman Masson tackles employee absence with health and wellbeing strategy

Finance and technology recruitment organisation Goodman Masson has prevention and wellbeing at the forefront of its healthcare strategy.

Alice Morton, head of people at Goodman Masson, says: “Despite the [organisation’s] growth over the last few years, we have seen a decline in absenteeism. We spend so many hours at work, we want our workplace to be somewhere people want to be, a place where they feel looked after and engaged. I believe our health and wellbeing strategy supports this.”

Goodman Masson offers an extensive range of health and wellbeing benefits to its 207 employees, which includes group risk products such as group income protection, critical illness, personal accident and private medical insurance.

The benefit strategy is very much geared towards prevention rather than focusing solely on the cure. For example, alongside mental health workshops and meditation sessions, the organisation also hosts regular cancer awareness workshops, and in November 2018, employees were invited to attend a laughter yoga workshop.

The group risk benefits are promoted alongside Goodman Masson’s wider health and wellness strategies via its online benefits platform, The Benefits Boutique. Employees are sent monthly emails about the benefits proposition as well as quarterly newsletters.

“The health and wellbeing of our employees is hugely important to us,” explains Morton. “This is more than just a daily fruit basket or a gym membership, we do of course have both, but we like to try and be creative with our approach.”

“Our strategic ambition is ‘to treat our employees better than any other business’, something I believe we do incredibly well,” Morton concludes. “Combined with our new relaxed dress code and our flexible working policy, health and wellbeing is at the top of our agenda.”

In June 2019, Goodman Masson won the award for Best employee engagement strategy at the Employee Benefits Awards and Summer Party.
