The National Gallery awards 3% pay increase to 250 employees

London art museum The National Gallery, which employs approximately 250 members of staff, has awarded a 3% increase to the basic pay of eligible employees.

The pay increases will be applied for employees’ September pay, and will be backdated to 1 April 2019.

As part of the pay deal, negotiated with trade union Prospect, all employees at The National Gallery will each also get a one-off, non-consolidated £150 payment in November, in recognition of their contributions to the organisation.

The minimum pay increase for those employees at the top of their respective pay bands, under the new basic rates, will amount to £500. Staff at the top of their categorised pay band will also receive a non-consolidated payment of 1%; this includes those in pay protection.

Executive directors will receive a 1.5% pay increase, in an effort to focus resources on lower paid staff members.

Although new employees that join The National Gallery will be entitled to the new base rates of pay, these members of staff will be ineligible if they are at the bottom of their respective pay band at the time of the deal’s implementation.

A spokesperson at The National Gallery said: “The Gallery has worked hard over recent years to deliver significant advantages for our staff during times of financial constraint. We are pleased to confirm that once more, we have been able to achieve a level of pay award which is above the average within our sector. We continue to work in positive partnership with our trade unions to develop our reward package.”
